Prints & Papercuts

For the last week I've been busy organizing prints and frames (and getting lots of papercuts in the process!) for my latest group exhibition. I'm so used to seeing my work on a computer screen, it's really nice to see my illustrations printed in real life  :)

Art for Spine auction

Hi all!  I haven't been updating my blog as frequently as usual, as lately its been all about my Facebook page. Just want to share the news of the Art for Spine auction that's taking place in Brisbane tomorrow to raise money for spinal injury. A framed print of my Cross My Heart illustration will be going under the hammer as well as paintings, artworks, fashion and jewellery from other talented Australian creatives.

A worthy cause and I'm sure it will be a fun night! More info about the event here.

SURFACE Launch x Exhibition

I'm really excited to be part of a group exhibition and launch party for Issue 2 of Six Years Later Mag! (Remember I wrote about 6YL mag here?). 25 awesome artists who were featured in Issue 2 will be exhibiting their art, and I will have six prints in the show and available for purchase.

It's happening in Melbourne, so unfortunately I wont be there - wah! But for those in Melbs, the launch night will be this Thursday, August 23 at No Vacancy Gallery from 6pm onwards. Check out the event page here.

Ruck Rover is chock-a-bloc with goodies

Last Wednesday, I the pleasure of setting up a mini exhibition at Ruck Rover in Mt Lawley. Every month, Ruck Rover hosts Mini Art Mart exhibitions with local artists and I will be exhibiting my work for the month of February. As I often view my illustrations on the computer screen, it's always great to see them framed and presented as a collection, and I really enjoyed the smaller scale of the exhibition as I usually tend to exhibit my work as large A3 prints. All the framed prints are available to purchase and I am also selling my Cross My Heart t-shirts, available in six colours.

Ruck Rover is the cutest shop and stocks lots of bespoke goodies, clothes, jewelery and zines. It's the perfect place for mini exhibitions with its arty vibe. Those in Perth should pop in and check it out during the month of Feb!  :)

Thirty exhibition

For those in Melbourne, all of the top 30 Positive Posters will be on display at the Thirty exhibition tonight at 1000 £ Bend from 5:30pm onwards. Be there or be square!

IHART Exhibition

For those in Perth, there is an awesome exhibition tonight upstairs in the Grey Door Gallery at the Claremont Hotel from 7pm onwards! There will be customized Chuck Taylor sneakers, 30 original skate decks and large artworks for sale with all proceeds going to the Heart Foundation. Two of my illustrations will available for purchase as A2 sized prints. More info here.

A night at the museum

Last night I went to the opening launch of the AC/DC: Australia's Family Jewels exhibition at the WA Museum. I managed to score two VIP tix for the event, and I'm so glad I did because they had an awesome tribute band playing beforehand as well as a bagpipe player leading everyone into the exhibition. Members of Bon Scott's family were there as well as people from Alberts Music (AC/DC's original recording label).

The exhibit had personal photos, handwritten lyrics, letters to Bon's wife Irene, gig posters and Angus' school uniform. They even had a huge screen at the back playing loud music and concert footage from Donnigton. Plus there were smaller screens playing interviews with the band from the early days. For an AC/DC nut like me (see this post) it was rock'n'roll heaven!

I was reading a few of Bon's letters and what really struck me was that even in the very early days of AC/DC he was aiming for the top. There was no doubt in his mind that AC/DC were going to make it big one day.

Anyway, it was an awesome exhibition and you could tell so much effort was made to design it. I went to so many school excursions to the museum as a kid, and I never would have expected them to come up with something so entertaining like this. After seeing this one, I would love for the WA Museum to show more pop culture exhibitions!

Nice Rack

Last weekend, three of my illustrations were on display at the Perth Cultural Centre as part of the Nice Rack Exhibition. Despite the somewhat saucy name, Nice Rack was created as a portable art exhibition with artworks displayed on postcard racks. Art for the people, I say!

The event was held as part of the National Youth Week Kickstart Youth Arts Markets, so there was a bunch of young designers out and about. The very talented peeps of Made of Awesome were present, selling their lovely handcrafted wares. I went to uni with these guys, so it was great to see their wonderful work on display - the wooden lasercut necklaces were my fave!

All in all, it was not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon!  :)

Fluevog

Last year I entered a competition to design an ad for Fluevog, the iconic American shoe label. While I didn't win, I will still quite pleased when they asked if they could display my design in the FluevogCreative art exhibition held in San Francisco last September. Being half a world away in Oz, I couldn't go see the exhibition but they were kind enough to send me a copy of the poster which I received in the mail last week. Happy days  :)

Brass Monkey - That Funky Monkey

For the last couple of weeks, I've had the song Brass Monkey by The Beastie Boys stuck in my head as I prepared for the exhibition of my works at the Brass Monkey venue. And happily, everything worked out great. The illustrations filled the rooms really well and I was glad I put all that extra effort into finding nice frames. Got some positive feedback which was really encouraging. The only downer is that nearly all the photos I took that night turned out pretty blurry - gah!

Exhibitionist

Next Thursday I will be exhibiting some of my illustrations at The Brass Monkey hotel in the lounge area. I'm looking forward to it because in the past I've only ever contributed one or two illustrations to an exhibition, but this time I will have to fill a whole space with my creations. After the opening night I guess I will be a seasoned exhibitionist, but for now, I'm still agonizing over what frames to use. It opens on the 9th December and lasts for three months, so if you live in Perth why don't you stop by?

Inkygoodness

How exciting! Last month I finished an illustration for AMMO Magazine (which is an awse publication) and the launch for issue 4 will be an exhibition at Inkygoodness in London on the 2nd of September. Unfortunately, being a million miles away in Perth, I'll just have to wait for the postie to deliver the magazine.
