Six Years Later

Embossed and varnished cover - so nice!

Two of my illustrations are featured in Issue 2 of Six Years Later Magazine. I created Cross My Heart and Truth, Love, Beauty as separate illustrations but it was great to see them together as a spread, as the oval shapes were nicely symmetrical.

Domestic Etch Growth & Decay

Earlier this year, I posted about the Frankettes illustration I did for Domestic Etch Magazine. I received a copy of the mag in the post, and was super happy to see that the electric pink and green colours pop off the page!

The issue featured some interesting interviews with Danny Brito and Sam McKenzie. You can see a preview of the issue here.

Inked feature

My Cross My Heart iPhone case is featured in the Jan/Feb issue of Inked Aus/NZ! Unfortunately they spelled my name wrong - Anne Corbai... yikes!

The issue was a really interesting read as it featured interviews with some of my favourite artists - Angelique Houtkamp, Caia Koopman and Taylor Reeve (you might remember I wrote a blog post about her shoes here).

Skin Deep Feature

Some super exciting news - my Señora Muerte iPhone case is featured in the January issue of the UK tattoo magazine Skin Deep!

Solitude Magazine

The lovely people at Solitude Magazine featured my Cross My Heart illustration in their Dec issue! Solitude is an Australian magazine featuring the best in alternative stylings, rockabilly, burlesque, tattoo, goth and punk. It's a great read and I think it's really refreshing to see these kind of magazines at the newsagents alongside more mainstream publications. Available for purchase online here.

Hell Yeah

Not only illustrating, but writing the articles, too!

If you're a long-time reader of this blog, you might remember last year when I posted my Adelita illustration which was done for Hell Yeah magazine. Well, issue three of the mag is finally out and in online format rather than printed. The theme for this issue is 'race' and there are some cool freaky-styley fashion photos in there too. 

Also, I wrote the article that accompanies the Adelita illo! So if you're interested to know about the real Mexican female soldiers, then give it a read. No spelling mistakes in there, I promise   :P

Interview with Marcos Chin

I was recently interviewed for issue 13 of the digital design magazine Wowmagz. Packed full of design and illustration goodness from around the world, I particularly enjoyed reading an interview with illustrator Marcos Chin. When asked the question about advice for new designers, he says:

In the beginning it's important to constantly create new pieces even if you are not commissioned by anyone to do so. Having perseverance and a strong work ethic is more important than talent, I truly believe this.

Semi Permanent

Yay! I just bought a copy of the 2011 Semi Permanent inspiration book, which features my Paramore illustration. Feels great to be published in a book alongside some of my favourite artists like Martin Ansin and Ken Taylor.

Thicker Than Blood

 

My Día de los Muertos inspired skull illustration

A couple of months ago, my b&w 'Transition' skull illustration was featured in a little American zine by the name of Thicker Than Blood. It debuted at the MoCCA Fest in New York back in April, but being in the Southern Hemisphere I just had to wait patiently until the postie delivered my copy to me. The theme of 'thicker than blood' can refer to family, so my illustration is inspired by Día de los Muertos which is a holiday to remember deceased family members.

Working in black and white and drawing something by hand (not vectors) was a change for me, but it turned out quite good. Who knows, I might even consider doing another b&w illo in the future.

Some exciting news! While I was on holidays, I found out that my Saint Billie Joe illo had been shortlisted in the illustration category of the 2011 Qantm Create Design Awards. It's also featured in the current May edition of Desktop Magazine. Blink and you'll miss it!

My Death Duel illo published in sexy monochrome blue

Earlier this year, I sent my Death Duel illustration to Voiceworks magazine and I have finally received the Autumn 2011 issue in the mail! For those who don't know, Voiceworks is a quarterly literary magazine that publishes new fiction, poetry and opinions by young Australians. The theme for this issue was 'Pulp' which was a good fit for my cowboy-themed illustration I did a while back.

I usually read more image-heavy magazines, but I really enjoyed reading through the short stories and articles in Voiceworks. Maybe I'm just tired of reading magazines about trends and superficial things, but I'm going to check out Borders for some more literary mags.

Hot Shoe Shuffle

Wow, since I've been talking about online mags recently, I wanted to share another one I just stumbled across. It's called Shuffle Magazine and it is awesomely awesome - really great content and interviews as well as pretty pictures.

Rojo & Garabato

I love online design magazines (especially as they're free!) and Rojo & Garabato is definitely one of my faves. Its half in Spanish, half English, and features a real global mix of designers, photographers, illustrators... you name it. They featured an interview with me way back in Issue 6 and they were kind enough to feature my work again for the special commemorative Issue 10. I've posted a few pics below of some spreads in this issue, as it's worth checking out - they even have a section at the back where the designers were able to ask the magazine questions.
