Frankettes in Xpress

Xpress Magazine featured my Mini Art Mart exhibition news in their recent issue. I was stoked, since I read it each week without fail. The exhibition runs until the end of February, more info here.

Newspaper Fame

Earlier this year, I wrote about being selected as a mentee for the Jump mentorship program. Well, last week I was able to meet the other selected mentees from WA, and was blown away by the talent in so many different fields, such as dance, theatre, opera and community arts. I also was photographed for the local newspaper alongside WA dancer and choreographer Emma Fishwick.

The photographer was very good at getting a smile out of us, asking us to throw leaves into the air!

Yuko Shimizu

Some great advice from Yuko Shimizu:
First of all, love what you do. If you are not in love with what you do you can never compete in a field where everyone else have so much passion in what they do.
Have high ambitions, and work harder than your ambitions. School may be a hard work, but you will soon realize that you have to work even harder in the real world. Hard work is not so hard if you are in love with what you do.
Let yourself experiment and grow. Be open to constructive criticism. You are an artist and not craftsman who's job is to create the same things over and over again.
Don’t forget that you are running a small business as well as being an artist. Learn to be a good business person. Be nice.
Don’t ever try to be someone else who is already in the field. Be the best of who you are and who you can become. Try and aim to create something nobody else has done/seen.
I highly recommend reading the rest of her advice here.

Dreamer EP Cover

I recently completed a really enjoyable design project. I was asked to create an EP cover for a local musician by the name of Lily. I listened to her music and absolutely fell in love with her dreamy, wistful and melodic pop songs.

The client liked my concept of having a lily flower in her hair with plant vines in the background to connect to her name. The organic border design was added in at the end, and it really ties everything together.

Great fun, look forward to working on more music-related projects in the future!

Ruck Rover is chock-a-bloc with goodies

Last Wednesday, I the pleasure of setting up a mini exhibition at Ruck Rover in Mt Lawley. Every month, Ruck Rover hosts Mini Art Mart exhibitions with local artists and I will be exhibiting my work for the month of February. As I often view my illustrations on the computer screen, it's always great to see them framed and presented as a collection, and I really enjoyed the smaller scale of the exhibition as I usually tend to exhibit my work as large A3 prints. All the framed prints are available to purchase and I am also selling my Cross My Heart t-shirts, available in six colours.

Ruck Rover is the cutest shop and stocks lots of bespoke goodies, clothes, jewelery and zines. It's the perfect place for mini exhibitions with its arty vibe. Those in Perth should pop in and check it out during the month of Feb!  :)

Benja Harney

Another awesome Slashie mini-documentary about paper engineer Benja Harney. I LOVE his amazing paper creations (worth checking out on his website) and I found it really inspiring to hear how he works a full-time job and then continues to create with paper into the night.
