Was so chuffed to be interviewed for the We Love Perth blog! I got to talk about my fave local designers, the best things about Perth and there's also a photo of my studio space. Thank you Jelena for asking some great questions! Check it out here.

Sea Surfboards

I've often wondered why most surfboards are so white and generic, and nothing like the more graphic and illustrative stake deck designs I see around. But when it comes to Australian company Sea Surfboards, the words 'white' and 'generic' definitely do not apply. They create custom surfboards and the results are absolutely stunning. Love the organic designs and the vivid hues. Dude!

Rudy Faber

I love the work of Dutch artist Rudy Faber. He paints beautiful lowbrow scenes with sassy tattooed ladies. The skateboards series is my fave!

Hell Yeah

Not only illustrating, but writing the articles, too!

If you're a long-time reader of this blog, you might remember last year when I posted my Adelita illustration which was done for Hell Yeah magazine. Well, issue three of the mag is finally out and in online format rather than printed. The theme for this issue is 'race' and there are some cool freaky-styley fashion photos in there too.

Also, I wrote the article that accompanies the Adelita illo! So if you're interested to know about the real Mexican female soldiers, then give it a read. No spelling mistakes in there, I promise   :P

Raudiel Sanudo

How amazingly-amazing is the work of Raudiel Sanudo? I think he is an artist after my own heart since he paints my favourite things! Mexican skulls, roses, lucha libre masks, hearts... all painted in the brightest hues.

Tales from Outer Suburbia

Lately I have been working my way through all of Shaun Tan's amazing books. I love the way he writes surreal stories and the quirky creatures and inventions he conjures up in his drawings. I adore all his books, but my favourite has to be Tales From Outer Suburbia. Every single page has been so thoughtfully designed with different mediums used to illustrate the short stories.

It is so inspirational how much success Shaun Tan has attained simply by following his passion for writing and illustrating children's books. This year he won an Oscar for best animated short film The Lost Thing, and he also won the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (a prize of AUS $760,000) acknowledging more than 10 years of his work in children’s literature.

How amazing to think that a world-famous, Oscar-winning illustrator grew up in Perth! I'll finish off this post with a quote from Shaun's website ...
In school I was known as the 'good drawer' which partly compensated for always being the shortest kid in every class.
